@mecscomms is recruiting for a remote based – home working, Ruby Developer & Software Engineer to work for a global, innovative MedTech, BeautyTech, HealthTech & SaaS provider. The Software Engineer & Ruby Developer will build, customise, scale & maintain, websites, eCommerce platforms & digital applications using the Ruby programming language, Ruby on Rails & the Solidus platform. If you have experience with open source programming OOP, backend web development, Ruby development, Solidus & eCommerce websites & digital applications etc. I’m keen to hear from you.

Purpose: Build, customise, scale & maintain, websites, eCommerce platforms & digital applications to support global operations. Manage other development projects, for example creating advanced BI reporting, CRM integrations, ERP systems collaboration etc.

Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 basic + benefits

• Research & generate ecommerce ideas
• Design, build & maintain scalable Ruby code
• Design & write new software & eCommerce applications
• Write code & develop software
• Implement technical innovations
• Manage; test, build & release processes - including de-bug fault finding
• Identify areas for modification or improvement
• Create technical specifications & plans
• Monitor & correct software defects & performance tuning
• High end complex troubleshooting & problem solving

Overview:

The role will deliver a robust technical resource to support the software engineering process through the delivery of website, digital application & eCommerce platforms.

Within this technical & hands on development role, you can expect to be engaged throughout the entire software development lifecycle including; gathering requirements, generating ideas, converting ideas into technical solutions, producing designs & plans, software development, coding, new product builds, test & debug processes & the release of new software innovations.

Responsibilities:

• Develop new software, eCommerce applications & features

• Design, build, & maintain efficient, & scalable Ruby code

• Create high quality, feature rich & user-friendly software

• Creating technical specifications & plans

• Create quality mock-ups & prototypes

• Champion best practices to improve quality of code & software development process

• Help maintain code quality, organisation & automation

• Inform & improve coding & solution design standards

• Test applications for bugs, performance, responsiveness & security

• Conduct code reviews & extensive testing to eliminate bugs

• Troubleshoot complex issues

• Implement new software & applications

• Integrate data storage & data processing solutions

• Continue to improve & maintain applications after deployment

• Coordinate with team members & third parties who work on different layers of infrastructure

• Document development, logic, coding & corrections

• Support DevOps activities as required

• Support application implementation from planning & change control processes through to go-live

Candidate profile:

Candidates must have previous & similar OOP software development experience. Ideally this would have been gained within a Software Vendor, eCommerce or large Enterprise environment, whereby your experience is likely to include some of the following:

• Ruby on Rails, preferably with an ecommerce focus

• Building & scaling user-focused web applications

• Writing maintainable code with a deep understanding of OOP, design patterns, test, behaviour driven development & data structures

• SQL &/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, etc.)

• Unix skills (Linux, Ubuntu, FreeBSD, etc.)

• Understanding of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5 & CSS

• Git or a similar version control system

• Cloud-based architectures such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud

• Payment gateway integrations

• Microsoft platforms using C#, ASP & related technologies

• Integrating with ERP systems like Microsoft Dynamics, BI tools etc.

• Open-source projects

• DevOps
